Bonneville is many things to many people. To some a vacation, to others, fruition of a dream, to all, Bonneville is an American tradition.
Emotionally charged with the mission of bringing the record back to the United States, and fulfilling a 20-year dream, Gordon McCall and Team McCall USA will redefine the limits of speed this October at the Bonneville Salt Flats. With a world record target of 180 miles per hour on a bicycle, the current mark of 166 mph set in 1995, is in serious jeopardy.
Surrounded by a team of specialists, the time for this assault has come!
Always inspired by people who aim farther, McCall has determined that it is his time to take a shot at the record. “It's human nature to want to challenge yourself to find your limits; it's not good to let other people define your limitations”, says McCall.
Establishing this new world record will not only bring the honor back to the USA, but will prove the effectiveness of a successful team.
McCall adds a personal side to the effort, by recalling fondly his childhood passion for speed and his curiosity with self-propelled machinery. “When I was 10 years old, I found a drop tank from a WWII fighter plane in the back bay of our sea side home in Carmel, CA. I dragged it all the way home and within hours I had converted it into the race car I had imagined in my mind so many times. I found four lawn mower tires and slapped together a makeshift steering harness, then went looking for the biggest hill in the neighborhood.”
In one afternoon, McCall had ignited his lifelong thirst for speed.
Fast forward to 2007 and McCall finds himself at the center of the Team McCall USA operation, once again combining imagination and knowledge to test the limits of both.
